Blood Pressure Assessment: Do You Have Hypertension?

Statistics show that more than 72 million Americans and as many as 1 billion people worldwide have hypertension (high blood pressure).

Since blood pressure tends to rise steadily with age, it's important to know where you currently stand. Use this tool to find out.

Your Physical Profile

Blood Pressure:
 /
   Systolic  Diastolic
Age:
 Years
Gender:

The Systolic value is the upper number in your overall blood pressure measurement. The Diastolic value is the lower number in your overall blood pressure measurement.

For example, if your blood pressure is 130/85 (i.e. "130 over 85"), then: Systolic = 130 and Diastolic = 85.

Quick Facts About Hypertension:
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure) is also known as the "Silent Killer". This is because it usually has no symptoms.

  • High blood pressure can lead to stroke, heart disease, and kidney disease. It can even cause blindness.

  • Fitness matters too. Statistics show that it is better to be fit and have high Systolic reading than be unfit and have an ideal Systolic reading.
